The International Network for Sound Education (INSE) is a global community of teachers, researchers, and academics dedicated to exploring the transformative role of sound in education.
Networks’ mission is to connect individuals and institutions who recognize that sound – whether as music, voice, noise, silence, or acoustic environment – can be a powerful medium for learning, creativity, and human connection.
INSE promotes an interdisciplinary and interthematic approach to sound pedagogy. We bring together diverse perspectives from education, the arts, sciences, and humanities to deepen understanding and inspire innovative practices.
Whether you are an educator seeking new ways to integrate sound into your teaching, a researcher investigating its cognitive or cultural dimensions, or a practitioner designing sound-based learning experiences, this network offers resources, dialogue, and collaboration opportunities.
Together, we aim to amplify the educational potential of sound – helping every learner listen, create, and understand the world more deeply through its vibrations.

Why Sound in Education and Sound Pedagogy ?
When we care about the sounds of the classroom, the school’s acoustic environment, and the sound quality of our teaching materials, we are already paying attention to Sound in Education.

The International Network for Sound Education (INSE) takes this awareness a few steps further. It draws upon Sound Studies – a contemporary interdisciplinary field – to develop new teaching methods and educational strategies.
At a deeper level, Sound in Education opens new pathways in pedagogy. It introduces a holistic, sound-based, and sound-focused approach to knowledge, understanding, and experience across all subjects.
The simplest beginning is to practice methodical hearing and active listening to our environment — a practice that enriches both school learning and everyday life. More advanced stages connect environmental sound with culture, art, and civilization, revealing how sound shapes our ways of knowing and being.
Sound Pedagogy applies to all levels of education and to all forms of technology – from unplugged, natural sounds to digital tools, new devices, and emerging codes of human communication.
Since sound often reveals the true substance of materials (scientists, after all, use sound to understand the structure, materials and conditions of our environment and our bodies ) Sound in Education becomes a joyful journey of learning, teaching, and living more attentively within the educational world.

Who We Are and How You Can Join
INSE was founded by the Greek Ministry of Education – Regional Directorate of Education of Peloponnese as a state-supported international thematic network with the collaboration of Greek Society for Music Education and Hellenic Society for Acoustic Ecology.
INSE emerged from the growing need that arose through Erasmus+ projects, where teachers from around the world shared experiences, ideas, and educational materials. This collaboration revealed how sound can unite disciplines and inspire innovative teaching across cultures.
All resources, materials, and activities designed to enrich and empower your educational work are freely accessible on this site.
